My Love Affair with Cannabis

I’ve always thought Cannabis is like a woman: layers and layers; Persecuted and revered – full of magic and wonder!

As you know, I am a big fan of this highly revered plant that has been cultivated for centuries. I have many years of experience in dealing with it. My lived experience is very practical (it helps me with concentration, to relax, and get out of my head) but it is most definitely also spiritual, helping to open my heart center by freeing my mind. Our brains are full of cannabinoid receptors in areas of the brain related to behavior, thought, and mood. When cannabinoids in cannabis interact with these receptors, they produce euphoric, relaxing effects.

Several factors can influence the effects—dosage, quality, strain, frequency and method of use. Different parts of this plant also have different uses. For example, I used a CBD concentrate for many years to calm my nerves.

Before the recreational use of cannabis, it was often used as a tool for spiritual awakening, ceremony and meditation. It has deep roots in indigenous traditions on every continent and has been popular in India since the beginning of recorded history. According to legend, the Hindu God Shiva wandered off into the fields after a fight with his family. He was so drained after the fight that he fell asleep and when he woke up, he saw a plant that interested him. He sampled the leaves and felt instantly better.

So, how do we use edibles, candies, smokes, cookies or bhang (a popular drink in India) in a more spiritual way? Well, for starters, we have to align with the frequency of the plant in order to go beyond the superficial. Once there is a vibrational match, the next step is to be INTENTIONAL and RESPECTFUL. No one does this better than my husband Richard. He keeps records every season of what he has grown, how he fertilized it and when he harvested it. Talk about respect!

One of the best birthday gifts I ever received was from Richard’s friend Joe who I share a birthday with. He gave me a CBD strain called Ringo’s Gift. It was creamy and smooth like a vanilla milkshake! It left me feeling grounded and peaceful, clear and focused and that first feeling stayed with me until this day.

The Divine Feminine in Friendships

Women, women, women!

That’s been a theme in my life for about two years now. Everywhere I turn I’ve been meeting strong, attractive, deep, interesting, creative women.

They have come into my life through the doors of my tax practice, online through the study of plant medicine, metaphysics & astrology and most recently through my book.

She found me through my audiobook and a google search. “And I fell in love with your voice,” the attractive Ukrainian woman standing in front of me in need of my tax services said. She was also a self-published author. I know this is going to sound cliche, but I felt like I had met her before. I also knew that she and I would become friends because we just “clicked” in the special way that I’ve been clicking with other special women.

Elena is one of many women I have met just like this over the last few months. I’ve walked into homes of clients and stayed for dinner, volunteered at the Steinbeck Center as a mentor to two young writers and met a soul sister from another life. Heck, it’s even happened to me with my editor who lives in South Africa. It sometimes feels like we are living in the same house because she and I connect via our daily routines as mothers, sisters, and colleagues and intuitively feel one another’s moods. It’s just incredible.

When my daughter, Caroline was getting ready to go off to college, I found myself sinking into a pit of separation anxiety and it affected me physically. I wrote about this in my book, Many Gifts in detail because I wanted to share this with as many women as possible. The Divine Feminine energy that links us all was in its natural state of flow, presenting with changes to both our menstrual cycles and it scared me! It scared me because no one really talked about it. Once I began to open up and let the light into this area of our world, I think that’s when I was able to hop back on the train that is always riding to its destination: HARMONY. The perfect state where all things divine and feminine blossom.

My old wounds around women all started coming to the surface for air:

Sister wounds (I’m a twin)
Friendship wounds (oh, I’ve got lots!)
Mother wounds
Ancestral wounds

I kept on diving into my plant medicine, meditation, my work, journaling and making love to keep my vibration as high as possible while I allowed the changes in my life and my body to happen. They were going to happen anyway!

I think that’s when this tribe of women soldiers started coming into my field. My channel was set to the right dial for them.

The other thing that happened – and I only just realized this while writing this blog – is that the women who were not set to the right channel fell out of my world. There was simply no vibrational match for us anymore. Now if THIS is not the Law of Attraction that all the great books talk about, then I do not know what is.

Women rock. This post is to salute them and to salute me because I could not be at this point if I did not have the common sense to recognize that this LOVE that I have for them is really all about the LOVE that I finally have for ME!

Beware the Ides of March

Beware the Ides of March! Haven’t you heard that before? I sure have but had no clue what it was about until my lovely husband Richard told me.

This is the day that fell on the 74th day of the Roman calendar, corresponding to March 15 on our calendar. For the Romans, it was marked by several religious observances and was a deadline for settling debts. I was thinking about settling some debts while driving home yesterday when I heard a loud bang! I thought that I had hit a rock in the road but then I saw a wild boar running off out of the corner of my left eye. My instinct to brake saved the poor thing from the same fate as old Julius Caesar on this fateful day in history. (Julius Caesar, the Roman dictator, was assassinated by a group of about 60 senators on the Ides of March of 44 BC Wikipedia). Ah, the Ides of March is tomorrow, I remembered…

Wild boars are often featured in Roman history and my Italian forefathers used them as a symbol in several military legions during the time of the Roman Empire. Little wonder my huge, brown friend came running onto my path as if to say, “Beware the Ides of March, Cara!” My guides sure have some strange ways of communicating with me at times but I am so grateful that they do.

March 15 is also a very important day on the Mayan calendar. It is the beginning of a new ceremonial cycle when new initiates are welcomed into the circle of spiritual leaders to take up their roles for the next chapter. My favorite blog about all things to do with Mayan astrology www.thefourpillars.net has all the information you need to know about this auspicious time. I plan to mark the date with some quiet meditation and prayer.

I also found out that Ruth Bader-Ginsberg (May she rest in peace) was born on this day in history in 1933 as well as St Nicholas, who is famous for being nice to children but also happens to be the patron saint for the falsely accused:-) Ruth is one of my heroes for advocating for gender equality. She demonstrated that gender biases impact men as well as women and she even used a tax case to prove this.

Some days just vibrate differently to others huh? The Ides of March is one of them and I just had to share.

Angel Numbers 222

Hello Lovers

Happy Valentines Day to you! Whether or not you celebrate this day, it is definitely a good time to think about all things love, romance and partnership.

I don’t know if you noticed (I always do because I think in numbers) but this month of love is full of 2s:

We won’t see the 222 sequence again for another century, until 2/2/2222!

I was so happy to find out that the number 2 is one of the most significant angel numbers! This definitely resonates with me. Angels have been on my mind a lot and it’s not just the man-of-the-moment – that cute naked Cherub, Cupid. Guardian Angels are assigned to each human being before birth. Some people have just one, while others have many depending on their soul’s mission and unique destiny in this incarnation.

Our Guardian Angels know us very well. They understand our unique set of challenges and they want to help us navigate them. They also know our fears, goals, and dreams. They take a sacred oath to stay with us, advocate for us, and assist us throughout life.

Angels love to leave signs for us to assure us of their presence. Whenever I receive such a sign, I say “thank you” out loud. They love to be acknowledged this way, and it encourages them to send more messages. Try it!

Another way I know my angels are close is through smells. It is usually a waft of a beautiful flowery fragrance that passes through my home/office with no other explanation that assures me I have company of the angelic kind.

I know the names of my angels but if you have never connected with yours, here are some tips:

Journal/Meditate with a clear intention about connecting with your angels
Ask for their name/s
Ask for a special sign (feather, music, a unique smell) that will be unique to you
Pay attention to little messages that turn up on your drive to work, in the lyrics of a song and see if those correspond with the qualities of one particular angel
Keep a dream journal next to your bed. Angels sometimes make an appearance in our dreams and can also come through telepathically during sleep to give us important messages.

In addition to our Guardian Angels, there are a whole range of others on standby. Take Archangels, for example. Archangels are like generals, helping to oversee all other angels. There is one for every purpose and every problem. Archangels like Michael, Ariel, Uriel and Gabriel are the most popular and they love to be called on when we are facing big challenges. Do yourself a favor and read up on the special qualities of each of these powerful celestial beings. They are the big guns, just waiting for you to connect so that they can come to the rescue!

I laughed the other day when my friend’s son asked her why the first words that angels in The Bible always say is “Be not afraid”. I guess they know us human beings too well.

Relationships are a 2-way street. What we put in is what we get out. So invest some time in your relationship with your angels, my friends.

I wish you guidance, friendship, protection, and a sense that you are never alone.

HAPPY YEAR OF THE TIGER 2022

February 1st is the Chinese New Year also known as Lunar New Year/Spring Festival.

Over 2 billion people celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year and their collective hopes for good health, love, and prosperity reverberate throughout the planet. There is not a place in this world that can claim not to be impacted by this rich culture. I’ve always loved watching the dragon parades and other special cultural activities.

The date of the Lunar New Year is never the same. This is because of my old friend the moon. It usually falls between January 20 and February 21 depending on the cycles of the moon.

Each year has a corresponding animal from the Chinese Zodiac and this year is the TIGER’s turn. The Tiger is the third sign of the Chinese Zodiac and is considered ruler of the beasts on earth. I am sure you have noticed that many Chinese kids wear hats or shoes with a tiger image for good luck.

A person born in the year of the TIGER is considered to be courageous, optimistic, tolerant, and generous. They can expect a long life and were born to command, not to obey. Famous people born in the year of the TIGER include Lady Gaga, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Queen Elizabeth II.

I just love the color of my new journal. It reminds me of the red envelopes traditionally given at this time. What a lovely synchronicity!

So what will the year of the TIGER bring for the collective? Well, it will definitely be better than the hardworking, exhausting year of 2021 which carried the energy of the OX. The energy of the Tiger is always about:

strength

overcoming darkness

bravery

In the days leading up to Chinese Lunar New Year, people go big on cleaning their homes! I’ve decided to join them. Not that I needed a reason. You do know that I find cleaning very therapeutic!?

It is customary that windows are scrubbed, bedding changed, doors are left wide open and lights are left on (often overnight). People literally wipe away all the old to make way for the fresh new energy to enter their lives and bring with it all the good luck, prosperity and good fortune for the new year.

If you are thinking of jumping on the bandwagon and joining this wonderful tradition, I must warn you: like Cinderella 12 midnight is your curfew! You must finish all cleaning by midnight as cleaning on the first day of the new year is strictly forbidden in case you wash away the new good luck.

The gift of my VOICE

People always comment on my voice.

I’ve been told that it is everything from soothing to seductive. Friends encouraged me to use it more. But how? I did not know where to start.

It wasn’t until after I wrote my book that I received some lovely intuitive guidance. An audiobook! Do an audiobook, Cara! The messages were clear.

I was excited to get moving but something strange happened. I just couldn’t get into gear! It took me a good few weeks to realize that there was a block somewhere. It turns out my Throat Chakra was blocked.

The chakras are the seven wheels of energy in the body, starting from the crown of your head and down the body to the base of your spine. Chakras are commonly thought of as spinning wheels of energy. When they are spinning properly, each chakra allows energy to flow and move freely so that we are moving in harmony and alignment but if one of these wheels becomes blocked our well-being can suffer.

The Throat Chakra is associated with the color bright blue. Blue energy is pure, soothing, calming, and healing and connects a person with the divine. This chakra acts as the body’s communication HQ. Although it is primarily the throat, it also rules the tongue, lips, cheeks, jaw, and ears, as well as the back, neck and shoulders. These were definitely the parts of my body that felt heavy and I was inspired to take action.

So in true manifestation style, I took action as though my Throat Chakra was already unblocked. “I am doing an audiobook,” I told my dear husband Richard. “Yes,” I said, “I am finally going to use my sexy voice!” I laughed.

And in true manifestation style, the Universe had no choice but to give me what I visualized!

Recording the audio was scary. My insecurities and fears popped up. So did a couple of other detours (dad is ill, I got ill, etc) but I kept to the vision. I sent loving blue light to my throat area, used my crystals, and meditated. I also focused my energy on speaking my truth and letting people know how I felt when they disappointed/hurt me. And hey presto, recording the audio began to flow and now another thing on my vision board is done; I am so proud of myself.

My work on my Throat Chakra is not yet done. Now I am focused on the listening part. That is the last bit of my “work” and then it is show time babyyyy.

Numerology of 2022 – Things are looking up!

Everyone eagerly awaits the new year because it represents a fresh start. Another chance to achieve our goals and pursue new opportunities.

I am quite interested in numbers, as you know – being a tax accountant and all. So I looked into the Numerology of 2022. Numerology is a practice based on the idea that numbers 1 to 9 have spiritual and symbolic meaning. Each year has a specific theme/flavor. The way we calculate this number is pretty simple. We simply add up all the digits for the year: 2+0+2+2 = 6. That is how to reach the Universal Number, which is 6 for 2022.

2021 had a Universal Number of 5 and the energy kept us “off-balance”. For many people, it felt like one step forward, two steps back. If this resonates with you, then you are not alone.

But 6 is a pretty good number for 2022. Even in terms of Mayan astrology, the number 6 is the number of “ultimate stability”.

The repetitions of the number 2 make it quite special as 2’s are recognized as “angel numbers” and with three of them in this year’s number, we can count on their help. So, talk to your angels this year. I’ve been having some heart to hearts with my angels over the holidays. They are always on standby to listen and sometimes that’s all we need.

In Numerology 2 is also known as the number of balance. It is often seen as the symbol of the peacekeeper, signifying all things rooted in unity. So we are encouraged to look at the areas in our life where we lack peace of mind. That’s where our focus and energy should be. It is also symbolic of family, relationships, partnerships, community. So we also need to look at where we are off-balance in this respect and take action.

I picked a card from my Crystal deck this morning to see if there were any other messages for us as we step into the new year:

Things are looking up, friends. We are rising from the ashes and with the Universal Number of 6 on our side, I am excited to see what 2022 will bring.

Full Moon & Partial Lunar Eclipse in Taurus

Dear Friends

I have never written two blogs in one week but this is important. I will try and keep it short.

As an intuitive, I am sure that you can already feel the intensity of energy that is building. In a few hours the Earth, Moon and Sun will be in almost complete direct alignment. The Partial Lunar Eclipse will last about 6 hours and this will be the longest eclipse of this kind since 1440. Read that again: 1440! The work of many lifetimes will come up for review during this time and my question to you is…are you ready?

You will probably feel:

Overwhelmed
Frazzled
Tired
Excited but nervous

That’s okay.

My Guides are telling me that if you have been doing your grounding and everything else to raise your vibration, you will be fine. The aim is to transition with ease.

Please be aware that personal relationships (romantic especially) are going to be affected by the intense, powerful, transformative qualities of this time. There is also big DIVISION ENERGY at play. What I suggest is that you make room in your heart for the people in your life who may not be ready to elevate and shift into higher consciousness. Holding space for them means allowing them to experience their life lessons at their own pace, even if that takes them on a path different from yours.

I wish you love, my friends. I have been feeling under the weather this week but I think the Universe wants to contain my busy-tendencies. I am listening and chilling with my man.

Return of PLUTO in US Birthchart

Dear Friends

The world of astrology is abuzz with talk of the Return of PLUTO in the Birth Chart of the USA.

The birth date of the USA is recorded as July 4, 1776 on the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Broadly speaking, this statement was about 3 things: Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness. Pluto was moving slowly (as it always does) and was stationed 27 Degrees of Capricorn in the Second House. On a birth chart, the Second House is related to all things money/wealth/values and Capricorn is linked to all things banking, big business, government and systems. Now, hundreds of years later with its return, we can expect that these areas are the ones that will be activated.

Also known as planet of the underworld, Pluto is associated with:

Death (in a metaphorical sense)
Financial reforms (debt, deficit, default, taxes etc)
Destruction
Crisis
Transformation
Rebirth

On February, 20, 2022 (ping*ping*ping* goes my number-wired brain) is when Pluto will return to 27 Degrees of Capricorn. In Astrology-speak, it will be “exact”. So, is this when it will all come crashing down? Well, I couldn’t answer that for a million bucks (and perhaps a million bucks will not really be worth much once Pluto is done with us) but we are definitely in for something BIG in the areas that will be activated. In fact, this activation is already underway.

Pluto’s return will have a huge impact on the economy of the USA as it comes to break down the old and expose what needs to come to light. The impact of the massive stimulus program undertaken to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic as well as murmuring of increases in taxes (which are no doubt to deal with debt/deficits shrouded in darkness) are two aspects I will be keeping an eye on. Could we see the US Dollar take a tumble resulting in it losing its status as the “default currency” of the world? Again, we can only wait and see, but I’m leaning towards yes.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. Pluto’s transit may be destructive and dramatic but the collapse of the old always presents an opportunity for something new. I am spending time in meditation, visualizing the NEW. Maybe you can join me? Let’s hold that vision and energetically drive the new agenda as we hold on to our seats.

NEW Moon Challenge

Hey Everyone

I know that I’ve told you about my full moon rituals before but hey, what about new moons? They’re special too and we have a fabulous one on Wednesday October 6, 2021 in the sign of Libra.

New Moons are usually a day of reflection and visualization. A monthly date-night with our own imaginations. I plan to let my date dress up and go to town! I’ve already set up a little station with paper, magazines, a gluestick and some scissors. We’re going old-school babyyyy.

Now here’s something exciting that I didn’t know before:

New moons mark the start of a chapter that will end when there is a corresponding FULL MOON in the same sign 6 months later. In this case, April 16, 2022. So I have a challenge for you. Spend some time journalling under the new moon and then look at those notes again around April 16, 2022. It will be interesting to see what shows up for you. Full moons have a way of illuminating key areas, and my guess is that your case will be no different.

Challenge accepted?

Before I run off, please be warned that Mercury is still retrograde and that this can cause miscommunication + issues with technology/mechanics and at the time of this new moon, this energy will be amplified. It’s nothing to worry about, just something to remember so that when things go belly-up (like the Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp blackout on Monday) you find ways to ground yourself.
